Experience of the Directors
CPC is an
incorporated clinical practice with a specialty in adolescent and adult
sexual abuse. The practice was started in 1989 by Dennis
McNamara, LCSW and Barry Anechiarico, LICSW.
Our theory of the psychology and treatment of sex offenders is
published in several professional journals and books. We have spent the
past 18 years training probation, parole, prosecutors, judges and
clinicians and we have set up dozens of ongoing specialized treatment
sites in several states across the country

Dennis McNamara, LCSW, is the Co-Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center, Inc.
He spent 1967 to 1988 working at the Massachusetts Center for the
Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexually Dangerous Persons where he filled
many positions of responsibility including Clinician, Coordinator of
Assessments, Coordinator of Release Procedures, Director of Operations
and Director of Forensic Services. He also chaired the
Massachusetts State Reintegration Review Board evaluating the treatment
and release readiness of dangerous sexual predators. In 1988 he
joined the Human Services Cooperative as Executive Director and
contracted with the state of Massachusetts to provide sex offender
evaluations for the stated and ongoing supervision and training
for state employed sex offender clinicians. Mr. McNamara has
focused his work on sexual offenders for the past 40 years.
He is a member of ATSA and on the Board of Directors of MATSA. He
is the MATSA representative to the Coalition against Sexual and
Domestic Violence and to the CSOM-sponsored Sex Offender
Management Intervention Projects in Massachusetts and Rhode
Island.

Barry Anechiarico, LICSW, is the Co-Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Counseling and Psychotherapy Center, Inc. He has worked with adult sex offenders at the Massachusetts Center for the Diagnosis
and Treatment of Sexually Dangerous Persons from 1976 to 1980 as a
clinician and again from 1984 to 1987 as the Director of Treatment. He
has also worked as a Director in adolescent programs including the
Adolescent Rehabilitation Center, a locked unit at the Solomon Carter
Fuller Mental Health Center in Roxbury, MA, The Center for Alternative
Education in Boston, and The Somerville Mental Health Center, an
out-patient program for juvenile sex abusers and their families. He was
a clinical consultant to The New England Forensic Associates, a
sex offender specific program in Arlington, MA and an Assistant Clinical Director at McLean Hospital's Arlington School for
emotionally disturbed adolescents. Mr. Anechiarico has been a
specialist in sex offender treatment for most of the last 30+
years. He is a member of ATSA, CCOSO, MASOC, NASW, and on the Board of
Directors of MATSA. Mr. Anechiarico has lectured internationally and is
a published author on topics in the field of sex offender treatment.

Timothy App,
Director of Operations, retired from the Massachusetts Department of
Correction in 2003 following 30 years of dedicated service. During
his career he held several positions of increasing responsibility
including Deputy Superintendent, Superintendent, and in 1990, was
appointed as the state’s first Assistant Deputy Commissioner of
Community Corrections. In terms of sex offender management experience,
Mr. App researched, developed and implemented the state’s
nationally recognized state-wide sex offender management program;
served as the first Chairman of the State’s Sex Offender Registry
Board; served as the first President of the Massachusetts Chapter of
ATSA; and in 2003, was appointed to serve on the Governor’s
Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Mr.
App is an Executive in Residence at Northeastern University’s
College of Criminal Justice where he has been a two time recipient of
the Who’s Who Among Americas Teachers Award, a two time nominee
for the University’s Excellence in Teaching Award, and
recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award by the graduating class
of 2006. He joined CPC in 2004 first to oversee the startup of the
secure treatment program for The Maine Dept of Corrections and to
assume management responsibility for all CPC prorgams.

Timothy Sinn,
LMHC, Clinical Director, is responsible for the clinical program
development and supervision of the agency "R.U.L.E." treatment
program. His experience and training includes an internship at Bridgewater State Hospital for the Criminally Insane and work as a substance abuse counselor, prior to his twenty year career working with sex offenders at the Massachusetts Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexually Dangerous Persons in Bridgewater, MA. where he
began as a clinician and was subsequently promoted to Unit
Director and Clinical Supervisor. He was responsible for managing
the Transition House reintegrating incarcerated adult sex offenders into the community. In
1995 he joined CPC part-time, as a clinical associate, leading
outpatient sex offender treatment groups and performing Clinical
evaluations and risk assessments. In 2002, Mr. Sinn joined
CPC as the Clinical Director. He is trained
in the Abel Screen for sexual interest (ASSI-2), the Penile
Plethysmograph (PPG), EMDR and many other actuarial and dynamic risk
assessments. He is a clinical member of ATSA and MATSA. His research explores Rape: the absence of affective empathy.
He has conducted numerous trainings for the Massachusetts
State Police and the Department of Corrections, and Probation and
Parole Agencies throughout the country on the Treatment of Sexual
Offenders and Sex Offender Typologies.
